Steve: “I was given this beautiful old Space Echo by Brendan Perry of Dead Can Dance. He used it on some old DCD records then had it in storage at Quivvy Church for years. I was absolutely delighted when it arrived, and couldn’t believe the condition when I unpacked it all – like it had just left the factory.
There’s a real beauty to the simplicity of a long loop of tape rolling around the heads. Unfortunately these machines need serious care and maintenance, so the first thing I did was to take it to Pete Hampson, keyboard technician extraordinaire. He gave it a proper bit of TLC and it came back sounding good – gritty, slightly warbly but that’s what I like about these machines.”
